When it comes to seafood quality, sustainability matters – and it matters a lot. Sustainable fishing adapts to the fish’s reproductive rates to ensure all species survive. This method eliminates the indiscriminate capturing of endangered species with no commercial value, and the bycatch is used to prepare fishmeal to diminish food waste. The best practices produce the least amount of waste, save the utmost energy, and decrease the use of ozone-layer damaging chemicals.

Our Eastern Fish Sustainability Program
Eastern Fish is excited to share our goal to source 100% responsible seafood by 2025. To meet this goal, we consider “Responsible Seafood” products that are:
- Certified by an eco-certification benchmarked by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI)
- Products taken from Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) or Aquaculture Improvement Projects (AIPs)
- Rated Green or Yellow by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program
Our Associations in the Seafood Industry
We have active memberships with the seafood industry’s leading trade associations, such as the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) and Global Seafood Alliance (GSA). To fulfill our responsibilities in seafood industry stewardship, we associate with suppliers who follow and sustain BAP and other internationally accepted sustainable seafood standards. Besides these partnerships, we also have an MSC chain of custody to maintain the integrity of an entire supply chain.
As a leader in environmental stewardship, we are committed to supporting the most effective practices in our supply chain to continue sourcing high-quality products while helping to address environmental and social challenges in the seafood industry.
Our Commitment and Participation
Eastern Fish founder Bill Bloom and current COO/President Eric Bloom have each served as Chairman of the NFI, and Eric currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the GSA.
As we are committed to the improvement of our oceans’ health, we also participate in the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) Mexican Shrimp and the Asian Farmed Shrimp Supply Chain Roundtable, as well as the Seafood Taskforce pilot in Vietnam in order to support environmental improvement in these fisheries and farms..
Eastern Fish is not only working toward improving the environmental performance of the fisheries and farms we source our products from, but we are also committed to respecting internationally recognized Human Rights standards in these countries. We are guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; and our Supplier Code of Conduct makes clear our fundamental expectations for suppliers within our supply chain, and all of our suppliers and their facilities are expected to uphold these standards.
