23 Aug It’s Mexican Shrimp Season! Discover the Secret to This Shrimp’s Popularity.
These Pacific Shrimp are plump and absolutely delicious. Mexico is best known for its breath-taking beaches along the Pacific Ocean—but that is not all it is famous for. Known for their unique blue color and full shape, Mexican shrimp species are found along the Pacific coast, where they can grow to a length of nearly 8 inches. Mexico’s coast is characterized by high salinity, resulting in the full-bodied flavor and firm texture that make these wild shrimp so desirable!
As a source of potassium, carbohydrates, calcium, and iron, Mexican shrimp are a great source of added nutrients for any recipe.
Where Does Mexican Shrimp Come From?
Commercially caught shrimp from Mexico are considered among the finest. Crisp, firm, and sweet, the texture and taste of farm-raised shrimp is also highly regarded.
Mexican shrimp are reared in excellent conditions both in the wild and in an aquaculture facility. They are caught close to the processing plants, which guarantees you always receive the freshest catch.
Wild-caught shrimp are harvested by artisanal fishermen along the coasts of Sonora and Sinaloa, within designated fishing areas. They are only packed in a few select, inspected, and approved facilities before making their way to your door.
Wild Caught Mexican Shrimp Species
There are three main types of wild-caught Mexican shrimp species, including:
- White – Litopenaeus Vannamei
- Blue – Penaeus Stylirostris
